Mental Health Services

Benedictine Hospital provides the only specialized in-hospital services for mental health patients in Ulster County.

The unit operates in a team focused environment. This team is comprised of a board-certified medical director, a team of psychiatrists, nurses, activity and occupational therapist staff and social workers. The team is known for its forward looking approach to behavioral health.

The acute care unit is located on the second floor of the Hospital's SMC Building, providing intensive psychiatric inpatient care and treatment to patients in need of these services. The acute care unit has 21 beds with large rooms and sunny hallways. There are numerous group therapy, arts and activities, and occupational therapies available for patients to enjoy in the progressive care unit.

The progressive care unit, located on the second floor of the Hospital's South Building, provides psychiatric inpatient care and treatment to patients who can function comfortably in a more open environment and anticipate discharge.

Partial Hospitalization

The Hospital's Partial Hospitalization provides psychiatric services for clients who require intensive treatment but can function more readily outside a twenty-four hour a day inpatient program. The program provides short-term treatment for clients to either avoid or shorten an inpatient stay. It is comprised of a multidisciplinary team including a nurse, social workers, activity therapist and a board-certified psychiatrist. The main modality of treatment is group therapy focusing on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. We also offer alternative modalities such as movement therapy, auricular acupuncture and pet therapy. The program operates Monday through Friday during the day time hours but program staff is available on call for clients outside regular hours.

Psychiatric Emergency Services

Psychiatric Emergency Service provides twenty-four hour a day, seven day a week service to all patients who require emergency psychiatric evaluation. An interview is conducted by a mental health evaluator and a board-certified psychiatrist to determine the appropriate service to meet the needs of the patient.
