Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Center is dedicated to providing patients a restorative healing experience. At the same time we offer coordinated high-contact services and information to physicians and insurers.

PM&R is a 10-bed unit of highly trained clinical staff. Our team includes a neurologist, administrative director, and rehabilitation registered nurses. In addition, we utilize other clinicians such as OT and PT, speech and language therapists, and social workers. We offer a personalized, intense rehabilitation program which includes therapy 3 hours a day, 6 days a week, along with 24 hour rehab nursing care.

Our goal is to help patients achieve their maximum potential, accelerate convalescence, and reduce the length of functional recovery.

Hip/pelvis fractures, total joint replacement, stroke, limb loss, multiple trauma, neurological disorders, cardiac, diabetics and other major debilitating illness or injuries requiring intensive rehabilitation are the mainstay of the work at PM&R. Patients with feeding tubes and IV therapy will be accepted as well as those with new or chronic appliances.

We pride ourselves on the family environment created in the unit. Families are always welcome to visit anytime or meet with the treatment team. We will also facilitate consults with other departments and physicians. Generally, these include consults with general surgery, internal medicine, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, oto-rhino-laryngology, plastic surgery, psychiatry, pulmonary medicine, and urology.

We are also sensitive to the needs of insurers and physicians. We send weekly progress reports and fax condition updates Monday – Friday. We discharge to home care and give estimated dates of discharge. We will work with your vendors to facilitate discharge, and will determine durable medical equipment needs if the patient is discharged to the home. Finally, we can also assist in further skilled nursing care.
